The City of Mercedes is gearing up to host its 14th Annual largest Labor Day Weekend Festival in South Texas, closing the event with Bobby Pulido.

The 14th Annual Texas Street Festival will be on Saturday, September 3, from 3 p.m. to 12 a.m.

The Celebration will be in downtown, the heart of Mercedes in the corner of Texas business 83 and 5th street. It will showcase the downtown business community. Attendees get to explore Mercedes’ preserved history with buildings from 1920’s and walk around to explore the businesses.

“We have worked so hard the past 6 months. It is a large volunteer group that includes the Chamber of Commerce, the Development Corporation, Public Works, Police Department, fire department, other city staff and student groups from Mercedes I.S.D.”, says Fred Gonzalez, Chamber of Commerce President.

Fred has been active with the chamber for 17 years. “14 years ago, we did some research to figure out what big event we can pull off showcasing downtown and being considerate to other RGV cities, making sure we don’t have an event in the same month. The first Texas Street festival we started off with about 5,000 people and we all feel extremely proud that it’s grown to 20,000 plus”, says Fred.

Proceeds from the festival will go to scholarships to all High schools in Mercedes. High schools include, Mercedes High School, Mercedes Early College, Mercedes Academic Academy, South Texas ISD (2), Science Academy/ Med High, and Triumph Academy. Each High School will be receiving (1) $500 scholarship.

The event promises plenty of food, drinks, arts and crafts, retail and informational booths along with free rides for kids, a car show, an arts zone and mascots. Headlining the main stage will be Bobby Pulido, Grupo Control, Ricky Guzman III, the South TX Homies, Chris Marshall, and opening up the event will be Aztec Eagles. Other exciting entertainment will be; Lucha Libre Wrestling and an Antique Car show hosted by Rebecca Car Queen. Presenting Sponsors are Sonic Crush Mercedes, Texas National Bank Mercedes Branch and City of Mercedes.
